Residential Training

Residential practice is an opportunity for members to live in the Creston Zen Centre Residence. Full time residents commit to becoming an intimate part of the Creston Zen Centre community as well as deepening their relationship to the larger Sangha. They commit to spending more time and energy doing formal practice within the context of residential practice than is possible in retreats or when living off site. During their term of residency they receive guidance from the resident teacher and from senior students, they study traditional Soto Zen texts, and experience dharma that is part of the Creston Zen Center's daily life. As work outside the temple and personal commitments allow residents attend daily zazen, communal meals, Wednesday evening and Saturday morning programs, work practice days, and week end and weeklong retreats. They have informal spiritual counselling at least once a term and participate in the Training Term program if possible. They also hold regular temple jobs and make themselves available for temple work projects.
