Kuya Minogue

KuyaKuya Minogue has been teaching Soto Zen practice since 1989. She took discipleship with Kyogen Carlson in 1990. In 1994, she left organized Buddhism to do hermitage practice in remote aboriginal communities. She has been teaching Zen practice since 1989.

She has studied with Natalie Goldberg, founder of Zen Writing Practice and author of the Zen Writing Practice primer, Writing Down the Bones

Since then, she has been teaching Zen Writing Practice in addition to traditional Soto Zen practice. She is resident teacher at Creston Zendo, an independent Zen Centre in the Soto Zen tradition.

She says, "In 1986, on the eve of my first read-through of The Diamond Sutra, I awoke in the middle of the night and sat straight up in bed. Without knowing what it meant I said aloud, "My purpose in life is to meditate and teach meditation. I helped establish the Eugene Zendo and after a few years moved back to Canada. Since leaving organized Buddhism I've established a practice centre whereever I've lived. In Burns Lake it was in a red silk tent in the bush, in remote aboriginal communities it was in the corner of my 8X10 hotel room. To have a backyard zendo as beautiful as the one I now teach in was nothing but a dream - a dream that has become reality. My purpose  has been completely realized."
