Creston Zendo
At the Creston Zendo there are two training terms a year – one in the fall and one in the winter. Training Term Students take vows of practice that include attending the Wednesday night class, (online students do class work as part of a training term email group) attending at least one weekend retreat, bodhisattva practice (doing volunteer work in their community) and establishing and following a personalized meditation schedule in their homes and, for local students, at the zendo. Each training term has a theme.
Winter Training Term 2012
February 17 – April 22
Precepts and Molding a Buddha-Brain
Sixteen Soto Zen precepts offer guidelines to develop a life that is free of gratuitous suffering. Brain and consciousness research in the last ten years has demonstrated that it is possible to literally alter the structure of our brains. The Winter Training Term will combine a study of the Zen precepts and an exploration of the work of Rick Hansen, author of The Buddha’s Brain: The Practical Neuroscience of Happiness, Love, and Wisdom.
